This paper examined the Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) in the teaching and learning process for improved student academic achievement. This is an expository study which was adopted by the researcher. It describes, explains and explores the novel nature of VLEs taking into cognisance of the ideas and relationship of the concepts to effective teaching and learning. The study is aligned to constructivism, which posits that learners actively construct their knowledge and understanding of the world; with high levels of motivation, interest, and involvement in the learning process and positive impact on academic achievement. This paper highlights on the use of virtual environment in education for teaching and learning process. It x-rays the various studies on VLE and its impact on students’ achievement which positively is of immense benefit for its adoption. Challenges associated with the implementation were also a focus with possible solution. Conclusively, VLEs offer various tools that can enhance students' interest, and involvement in learning leading to a more personalized and flexible learning experience. Amidst the recommendations was that policy makers and curriculum planners should integrate the use of VLEs and the necessary intricacies associated with the implementation in their decisions for enhanced learning efficacyDownloads
