FACTORS MILITATING AGAINST TEACHING PRACTICE PROGRAMME AS PERCEIVED BY HUMAN KINETICS AND SPORTS SCIENCE UNDERGRADUATES, UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR, CROSS RIVER STATE - NIGERIA

The study aimed to investigate factors militating against teaching practice programme as perceived by Human Kinetics and Sports Science undergraduates, University of Calabar, Cross River State. Three research questions and three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study, while the survey design was utilized. The population of the study comprised of one hundred and sixteen (116) students. The sample of the study consisted of fifty eight (58) respondents. This represents 50% of the total population of the study. Instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire title “Factors Militating against Teaching Practice Programme as perceived by Human Kinetics and Sports Science, Undergraduates Students Questionnaire” (FMTPPQ). The questionnaire was constructed on four point likert scale options. The instrument was face validated by the experts from Department of Human Kinetics and Sports Science, University of Calabar. The reliability of instrument was established using split-half method and Pr which yielded a correlation coefficient of 0.78. Data collected were analysed using independent t-test analysis at .05 level of significance. Findings revealed that facilities/equipment, time and funds have significant influence on teaching practice programme of undergraduate students of Human Kinetics and Sports Science Department, University of Calabar, Calabar, Cross River State. Based on the findings, it was recommended amongst others that school management should make available standard facilities/equipment for the teaching practice students to work in and work with.
